My name is Eduardo Pichardo, I am Mexican and for one year I had the
chance to live in Japan as an international exchange student and learn the
Japanese customs and lifestyle. I must say that the first 2 months were a
little bit difficult because I had to adjust my self to the hard-working
Japanese lifestyle. I spent countless hours in my lab trying to make the most
out of this year, academically speaking, trying to learn from my lab mates and
from my professor. By the end of the year I had the chance to participate on an
international conference held in Bangkok, Thailand, using the results I
obtained from my lab-work. My professor, PhD. Tetsu Narumi, was helpful and
supportive all the time, and even help me to obtain financial support from the
university to attend to the conference in an all-expense paid trip.
My trip lasted for 4 days and I must say that I made the best of each moment. I visited 2 different provinces in Thailand: Bangkok and Pattaya. Bangkok, it turns out, is an easy city to live in. There’s lots to do, plenty of events, great bars, amazing and exotic food, and it’s easy to get around (except during rush hour). I love cities where there’s always something to do. No matter what time of the day or day of the week, you can always find something to do in Bangkok. Also, when I found hidden markets and amazing street stalls frequented only by locals, became friends with residents, and understood how it operated, I knew why people loved Bangkok so much.
I would like to thank my Professor, Tetsu Narumi, and to the University of Electro- Communications for allowing me to have such an amazing experience of living one year in Japan and having the opportunity of traveling abroad, on behalf the UEC, to share my research and get to know a new culture.
